Overview
The island of Karpathos is one of the most unique areas of Southern Greece. Rich in history dating back as far back as the Trojan War, the island provides plenty of ancient sites for tourists to see. An amazing combination of modern day amenities along with villages which traditions have been virtually unchanged for hundreds of years, Karpathos is truly a gem to be discovered. Added to the mixture are some of Greece's most beautiful beaches, secluded areas, and old monasteries the possibilities are limitless.
Tourism on the island has been on a steady rise over the past 15 years, yet has remained low compared to nearby islands, leaving the area not as commercially oriented. With the recent construction of an international airport, as well as the construction of a larger seaport, it is only a matter of time before tourism on the island will rapidly grow. Regardless of the amount of growth, the island will always retain the mixture of secluded areas and thriving cities. Public transportation includes frequent buses, taxis, ferry rides to nearby islands and remote areas, as well as air travel within Greece and the rest of Europe. This all simply adds to the attraction and is a main reason why the island is beginning to attract such attention.
